72-Year-Old Gogo Arrested for Drug Dealing in Cape Town

The elderly are stereotypically expected to be do-gooders but this cannot be said about a 72-year-old gogo who was recently arrested for drug dealing during Operation Shanela in Kraaifontein, Cape Town.

Acting on a tipoff that a house in Scottsville, Kraaifontein, was a drug haven, SAPS obtained a search warrant and searched the premises.

Large Quantities of Drugs Seized

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie said the search recovered large quantities of different drugs.

“When officers arrived, they searched the house and found a large quantity of drugs, including mandrax tablets and cocaine,” said Pojie.

Apart from the assortment of drugs, police also found an undisclosed amount of cash which they believe to be from drug sales. Pojie said a 72-year-old gogo was arrested and will appear in the Bluedowns Magistrates’ Court once she is formally charged.

Community Shocked After Gogo is Arrested for Drug Dealing

The arrest has left the community in disbelief. Nasiphi Tanana, a Kraaifontein resident, expressed her shock that a woman of her age could be involved in such activities.

“I couldn’t believe it because she gets a pension from the government. At her age, she shouldn’t be breaking the law,” said Tanana.
