Shocking Brawl Erupts: Ace Magashule Faces Jail Time For Assault

Former African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general and current African Congress for Transformation (ACT) President, Ace Magashule, could soon find himself behind bars after an assault case was filed against him.

The alleged incident took place during Magashule’s two-day campaign trail in the Lejweleputswa District in Welkom and Virginia, Free State, over the weekend. Magashule, who was in the area to launch his new political party and attract new members, is accused of assaulting a man named Ndade Moletsane.

Altercation Erupts Over T-Shirt Toss

According to a source who spoke to ZiMoja, the incident occurred on Sunday when Magashule, along with his bodyguards, reportedly assaulted Moletsane after he threw a t-shirt at Magashule’s face. The source explained that they were sitting outside a popular chisanyama in the area when a convoy of cars distributing ACT t-shirts passed by. Moletsane threw a t-shirt back, and it accidentally landed on Magashule’s face, leading to the altercation.

“One of the people in the van threw a t-shirt at him and he threw it back and said he didn’t want it. He didn’t even know that Ace was inside one of the bakkies, and the t-shirt he threw back landed on Ace’s face. Ace got out of the van swearing and assaulted the man together with his bodyguards,” the source said.

Police Confirm Ace Magashule Assault Incident

Confirming the incident, Free State SAPS spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng provided details of the events. According to Captain Thakeng, the incident occurred on January 20, 2024, around 19:30, near a well-known shisanyama business premises.

A 44-year-old man from Meloding threw a t-shirt back at a politician and his entourage distributing t-shirts. The t-shirt covered the politician’s face, prompting him to exit the vehicle with his bodyguards and allegedly assault the complainant.

The victim sustained injuries on his face and reported the case on Monday, January 21, 2024, at Meloding Police Station. A case of common assault has been registered, and the matter is currently under investigation.
