AKA Triggers Controversy With Covid-19 Sentiments

Multi-award-winning South African musician AKA has ignited controversy after he shared his theories on the transmission of Covid-19 on social media. The rapper, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, appeared to question the science behind the transmission of Covid-19 by asymptomatic people.

Writing on social media platform Twitter, the ‘Fela In Versace’ star said

Where is the PROOF that someone can infect another person with a deadly virus 🦠 without showing ANY symptoms of the virus that they are carrying? Does that even make sense? How does that even sound logical?

— AKA (@akaworldwide) December 20, 2020

AKA’s rather radical theories on how Covid-19 is transmitted attracted a lot of attention and within a few hours, the post had more than 3 000 interactions. However, it seems that a lot of people were not impressed by the rapper’s theories and cautioned him to be more careful about the information that he shares with his followers. Others accused the rapper of being reckless and counselled him to be careful when speaking about matters in which he has no expertise.

A few days ago I tweeted about how people don’t mind arguing on this app with actual experts and experienced professionals in their respective fields.

Complete ignorance and blatant disregard of the social influence he has over society and he decides to tweet this.🤦🏾‍♂️.

Does he not have friends who are doctors that he could ask this question in private to? Taking us backwards!!! https://t.co/lAQcOoy8NV

Epidemiology professor loading. What the hell is going on that people with no background in medicine are asking for proof as if they’ll understand it? Do doctors and scientists just surf Wikipedia for years that you think your webmd doctorate carries the same weight? https://t.co/4TncdlyvsB

However, despite the backlash, AKA was yet to delete or clarify on his tweet about Covid-19 transmission. The article will be updated if this changes.
