Another Blast Rocks Johannesburg: 5 Injured in Braamfontein Gas Explosion
In a startling development, Johannesburg has been hit by yet another gas explosion.
This gas explosion incident which happened in Braamfontein resulted in five individuals sustaining injuries, raising concerns about gas safety in the city.
Maintenance Work Triggers Gas Explosion
According to Eyewitness News, the explosion occurred during routine maintenance work on a gas pipeline at the intersection of Bertha and De Korte streets. Egoli Gas employees were in the midst of their duties when the incident unfolded, causing significant damage to the area.
Fire Engulfs Company Truck and Building
The aftermath of the explosion saw a company truck engulfed in flames, along with a portion of a nearby building. The response from Johannesburg emergency services was swift, with injured individuals being promptly transported to various medical facilities.
“At this moment we can confirm that five people have been injured and taken to various medical facilities around the city. We have just done damping down and we’ll do an investigation of what has caused the fire,” Joburg EMS spokesperson, Nana Radebe revealed.

Authorities are diligently investigating the cause of this explosion, as safety remains a top priority. Egoli Gas, in cooperation with city officials, is taking proactive measures to enhance gas infrastructure safety and prevent future incidents.
