Ukhozi FM has been hit by tragedy once again following the death of presenter Nondumiso Shazi, who died recently.
Nondumiso passed away on Thursday, November 21, at Durban’s Addington Hospital. The 33-year-old presenter was the host of the station’s Sunday School program, Vumelani Abantwana Bezekimi, which she had presented since 2023.

Her sister, Thando Shazi, revealed that Nondumiso had been battling severe health issues for the past month.
“It all started as a normal headache, but as time went by, she was rushed to RK Khan Hospital. One of the doctors diagnosed her with meningitis. As the illness progressed, she was weak and trembling, so she was transferred to Addington,” she said.
Thando shared the heartbreaking final moments leading up to her sister’s death.
“On Wednesday, 20 November, a doctor from Addington Hospital called the family and told them to come to the facility on Thursday. While on the call with the doctor, we asked if she was getting worse or better, but the doctor said there was no difference.
“On Thursday morning, as we were preparing to go, we received a call with the devastating news of her death. We’re heartbroken and still wondering what the doctor was going to tell us because nothing was said after she died.”
SABC Mourns The Host
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) confirmed the news, expressing deep sorrow over her passing.
“Ms. Shazi started working at the SABC in June 2023. She’s played a meaningful role in fulfilling the SABC’s public service mandate from a programming perspective. She will be deeply missed by her colleagues, friends, and listeners of the station,” said SABC head of communications, Mmoni Seapolelo.
Shazi’s death marks yet another loss for Ukhozi FM, which has mourned the passing of several prominent figures this year, including producer Bonga Ndaba, presenters Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule and Bheka “Beekay” Mchunu, and presenter-producer Irvin Sihlophe.
