The women’s national football team made history yesterday after registering their first-ever World Cup victory after eliminating Italy in a decisive 3-2 win at the Wellington Regional Stadium at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia-New Zealand.
The girls’ goals came from an own goal from Benedetta Orsi in the 32nd minute, Hilda Magaia in the 67th and a sweet 92nd goal from grieving Thembi Kgatlana to seal the victory.
Banyana Banyana progressed to the World Cup round of 16 after coming second to Sweden in the group and will now face The Netherlands on Sunday, August 6, at the Sydney Football Stadium.
