Beats and Backlashes: DJ Maphorisa Reclaims His Luxury Cars from Thuli Phongolo Amidst Assault Drama

DJ Maphorisa has reportedly taken back his Porsche and G-Wagon cars from his girlfriend, Thuli Phongolo after he was accused of assaulting her in a violent incident.

The Amapiano star, born Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, was arrested in May for allegedly beating up and strangling the former Generations: The Legacy actress at her Sandton home.

He was granted R4 000 bail by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court and ordered not to have any contact with the complainant.

Why DJ Maphorisa Took His Cars From Girlfriend Thuli Phongolo

A source close to the couple said Maphorisa sent his friend to repossess the cars he had bought for Thuli as a sign of his anger and disappointment.

“Maphorisa was furious that Thuli opened a case against him. He felt betrayed and humiliated. He decided to take back his gifts and cut ties with her,” the source said.

The source added that the couple had a heated argument at one of Maphorisa’s gigs the night before the alleged assault. The fight was sparked by a man who flirted with Thuli and offered to send her R40 000.

“Maphorisa was jealous and insecure. He accused Thuli of cheating on him and disrespecting him. He lost his temper and attacked her at her home the following day after a spirited exchange,” the source claimed.

Thuli filed a withdrawal statement the day after Maphorisa’s arrest, but the case has not been dropped as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is still investigating.

The couple released a joint statement last month, saying they want to deal with the matter privately and amicably.

Ongoing Court Case

The Mnike hitmaker appeared in court on Wednesday, but the case was postponed again due to the absence of state representatives.

He is expected to appear again on 12 July.
