Big Zulu and Sjava Get Mzansi’s Nod of Approval After Album Release
South African music duo Inkabi Zezwe has finally released their highly-anticipated album, Ukhamba. The release follows the success of their love anthem “Umbayimbayi,” which has gone double-platinum and garnered over 1.3 million views on its official music video in just ten days.
The song also peaked at #1 on Spotify’s Made in South Africa and Bhinca Nation playlists, #1 on the Top 25 Johannesburg, Durban, and Top 100 South Africa charts on Apple Music, and #1 on iTunes. “Umbayimbayi” also claimed the #1 spot on South African radio for three consecutive weeks.

The Making of Ukhamba
The album was recorded in Bergville over a two-week period and produced by Xowla Shabalala (Stallion) and Mfanafuthi ‘Ruff’ Nkosi. Ukhamba is a fusion of various genres, including Afropop, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Maskandi. The duo drew inspiration from their surroundings and infused their Zuluness into the project, which reflects a universal message of community, affection, and sensitivity.

Ukhamba features twelve tracks that take listeners on a personal journey while reflecting contemporary South African culture. The album begins with an introduction from Inkabi Zezwe, followed by “Khaya Lami,” “Siyabonga,” “Omunye,” “Umbayimbayi,” “Uthando Lunye,” “Emapusheni,” “Slow Jam Sase Bergville,” “Iskhwele,” “Sayona,” “Ilanga,” and “Impumelelo” (ft Xolwa Stallion).
Themes explored in the album include love, heartbreak, identity, and the struggles of trying to make ends meet. “Sayona” is a heartbreak song about two people who love each other but cannot seem to find common ground due to past mistakes. “Impumelelo” is about the pain of losing a partner while trying to make ends meet.

Upcoming Tour Details
Inkabi Zezwe’s Ukhamba album is a significant contemporary South African anthology that celebrates the duo’s sonic inclinations and Zuluness. The album takes listeners on a riveting journey that feels personal and reflects a nation back to itself. The duo will embark on a four-city tour, starting on June 24 at the Sunbet Arena @ Time Square in Pretoria, followed by Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town on July 29, The Big Top Arena at Carnival City on August 26, and concluding the tour in Durban at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium on September 3.
