American vlogger Tokyo Toni, Blac Chyna’s mom, has courted controversy after alleging that Tyla won a Grammy because she is an industry plant.

Tokyo, whose real name is Shalana Hunter, expressed scepticism over Tyla’s victory, suggesting that her success was not solely due to her talent but rather part of an industry plan.

Tyla, a rising star in the music industry, gained international acclaim for her hit song “Water,” which went viral on TikTok. The song won the Best African Music Performance at the 2024 GRAMMYs award show, making her the youngest South African to receive the award. However, Tokyo’s remarks have caused a stir among fans and critics alike.

In a video that has since gone viral, Tokyo questioned the legitimacy of Tyla’s Grammy win, stating, “One song gave you a Grammy? How is that possible,” and labelling her an “industry plant.” She added that Tyla came from nowhere to win a Grammy when other artists have spent decades in the industry but have not won the award.

Tyla has not yet commented on the comments from the United States podcaster.
