Former SABC sports presenter Walter Mokoena is reportedly facing challenges in meeting payroll obligations for his online publication after he became broke.

Financial strains have besieged ex-SABC sports anchor Walter Mokoena, allegedly causing significant delays in compensating his workforce at The Joburg Post, an online media outlet he owns.

According to sources within the company, employees have endured months of uncertainty and frustration due to recurring delays in receiving their salaries.

Employee Frustrations

A senior team member, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed the mounting discontent among staff members.

“My enthusiasm upon joining The Joburg Post quickly turned to disappointment as we faced repeated delays and unethical conduct,” the employee lamented.

The employee further elaborated that even when payments were made, they often arrived late, resulting in missed payments and financial hardships for the staff.

“Despite our dedication, Walter Mokoena consistently failed to meet his obligations, causing financial strain and undermining team morale,” the senior staff member added.

Employees have also accused Mokoena of being dismissive and unresponsive to their concerns, exacerbating tensions within the workplace.

Financial Setbacks

Insiders close to Mokoena attribute his financial woes to various factors, including his recent divorce from Nosizwe Vuso, daughter of former President Jacob Zuma.

Additionally, his social media venture, MySportsBook, has failed to gain traction, further exacerbating his financial predicament.

Furthermore, Mokoena’s dismissal as special advisor to former Minister Nathi Mthethwa and the cessation of his sports agency activities have contributed to his financial downturn.

“Walter is currently in dire financial straits, with the income from sporadic jobs falling far short of his expenses,” a confidential source revealed.
