He’s Boosting Sales”: Cassper Nyovest Dedicates Soul-Stirring Song to AKA in ‘Solomon’ Album
South African rapper Cassper Nyovest has paid a touching homage to his former “rival,” the late rapper AKA, in his latest album, “Solomon.”
On the stroke of midnight, September 15, 2023, Cassper Nyovest, known real name Refiloe Phoolo, released his seventh studio album. This musical project marks his return to the rap scene after a hiatus, which was triggered by the rise of Amapiano music.
Cassper Nyovest Pays Homage To AKA
In the album, Cassper Nyovest dedicates a track called “Candlelight” to commemorate his one-time adversary, the late rapper AKA. In this poignant song, he expressed his emotions through rap:
“The other day, I went to see your family. I was scared because I thought they’d be mad at me, but they embraced me. Your mama is a lady, and your father might be cooler than you maybe. Everybody misses you. Aunty Lynn, Uncle Tony, we are with you. And every time you feel down, we will lift you. We pray to the mighty God that we live through.”
Cassper also took a moment to pay his respects to the late rapper Costa Titch, who had previously been one of his dancers. Despite their past differences, Cassper honoured Costa:
“Another candlelight for Costa. Big Flexa, my dude you were awesome. I know we had a little issue. We are human. But I just wanna let you know umurule.”
The Longstanding Grudge
Cassper Nyovest and AKA were once embroiled in one of SA’s most intense feuds within the music industry. Their animosity ran so deep that, at one point, AKA physically slapped Cassper, leading to an emotional outpouring on Twitter.
Before AKA’s untimely passing, the two rappers even flirted with the idea of settling their differences through a boxing match, although this never happened.

However, with AKA’s tragic demise, the animosity between them dissolved. Cassper Nyovest extended his condolences to the Forbes family, and AKA’s father, Tony, publicly acknowledged and thanked him. Tony Forbes also revealed that Cassper couldn’t attend the funeral due to his overseas commitments.
Mzansi Calls Cass A Bluff
Some online have questioned Cassper Nyovest as he dedicates a song to AKA.
Cardo:
“always making things about him mxm.”
Lelo:
“Nonsensical tribute. He left his homies Jabba, Ricky and Sumbody to boost his whack album. Riding Idolo wave beyond the grave. I guess he’s in need of sympathy streams.”
Chris:
“No one can convince me by saying Cassper Nyovest is genuinely paying respect to AKA. He failed to show Kiernan love when he was still alive. Why wait for him when he’s no more so he can push his album?”
Mthiya:
“He wants to boost sales.”
