Allegations of Sabotage and Xenophobia Surface
The citizenship debate has sparked strong reactions, with Guy Murray-Bruce, owner of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, defending Chidimma’s right to compete.
In an interview with Arise News TV, Murray-Bruce claimed that Chidimma has been unfairly targeted due to her Nigerian heritage.
Chidimma is caught in a situation that is not of her making. She is being victimized simply because of her mixed background—having a Nigerian father and a South African mother,” Murray-Bruce remarked.
He further alleged that Chidimma’s chances in the Miss South Africa pageant were deliberately undermined.
“It seems like there was an effort to push her out when she was doing exceptionally well. That’s my perspective,” he said.
Murray-Bruce asserted that Chidimma, who holds a Nigerian passport, is fully eligible to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant. He also condemned the xenophobic sentiments that have surfaced during the controversy.
“Her only ‘crime’ is being of Nigerian descent, and this reeks of xenophobia. Here in Nigeria, we do not condone such behaviour,” he added.
