The Brazen Robbery CIT Heist In The Eastern Cape

While the full details of the CIT heist remain unclear, what is known is that a group of robbers closely trailed a cash-in-transit van carrying millions of South African rands from a local bank.

The criminals intercepted the CIT van, subdued the security personnel responsible for safeguarding the cash, and triggered an explosive device that obliterated the vehicle. As a result of the powerful explosion, numerous banknotes were propelled into the air, scattering around the blast site in all directions.

Swiftly seizing the opportunity, the thieves collected a substantial amount of money from the ruptured CIT van and swiftly vanished from the scene. They had no time to tidy up or retrieve all the banknotes that had landed on the ground.

Once the armed robbers made their hasty exit, nearby residents rushed to the scene, and pandemonium ensued.

Locals converged on the location, competing fiercely to lay claim to the scattered cash. Photographs circulated on social media platforms show men wholly focused on securing their share, with the banknotes proving too numerous to be gathered up quickly.

Due to the force of the explosion, some of the banknotes were torn into pieces. Nevertheless, the majority of the cash remained intact, providing an unexpected windfall for the local population.

Online, the tweeps shared a range of mixed emotions.

Badlana:

“This occurs like every week here in the Eastern Cape on the N2 between East London and Kokstad and between Phakade junction and Bizana/Port St Johns. Sadly you will never hear about it on TV.”

Just Justice:

“Not bad, some notes left for the community 🤔

Zerps:

Amo:
