Confession Pins Kelly Khumalo as Senzo Meyiwa Assassination Mastermind
Lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda shared in court that eyewitnesses from the night of Meyiwa’s death reported two intruders entering Kelly Khumalo’s Vosloorus home, demanding valuables. A scuffle ensued, resulting in Meyiwa’s fatal injuries. The trial took a surprising turn as Ntanzi, identified as the taller intruder, allegedly confessed to his involvement and implicated Kelly Khumalo as the mastermind behind the murder.
Gininda informed the court that Ntanzi confessed to a commissioned officer, later reiterating the admission in the presence of his attorney and a magistrate. The confessions indicated that Ntanzi matched the description of the tall and slender intruder mentioned by witnesses.
As the court proceedings unfolded, additional shocking details emerged. The affidavit revealed that a picture of the money paid to kill Senzo Meyiwa was found in both the phones of accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube, and Kelly Khumalo.
Previous Allegations: Money Trail and Phones
This development marks the second time Kelly Khumalo’s name has emerged in the trial. Previously, cellphone records presented by Colonel Lambertus Steyn revealed calls between an alleged accomplice, Fisojuhle Ntuli, and a number registered under Kelly’s name. The nature of these calls, occurring before Meyiwa’s murder, remains a mystery to investigators.

Clarifications and Investigation
Gininda clarified that Sibiya, Accused 1, claimed to be outside at the time of the shooting, contradicting his naming of Marco Buthelezi as the perpetrator. The investigation, however, concluded that Accused 3, Mthobisi Mncube, was the one who pulled the trigger. This was supported by photos downloaded from Mncube’s phone, revealing him wearing clothes matching the description of the assailant, carrying a gun, and sporting dreadlocks.
All three accused individuals, including Ntuli, were identified as Zulu speakers who knew each other. The investigation also uncovered photos of the murder weapon used in Senzo Meyiwa’s killing.
