Recent events have unfolded in Durban, resulting in the arrest of EFF KwaZulu-Natal communicator Mazwi Blose in connection with an alleged assault on radio host Ngizwe Mchunu.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal police, confirmed the arrest, stating that Blose is facing charges related to malicious damage to property and theft following an incident on January 23 at a hotel on K.E. Masinga Road in Durban.

Netshiunda explained, “The suspect is alleged to have damaged cameras, chairs, and a table. He also took a cell phone during an incident that happened at a hotel on K.E. Masinga Road in Durban.”

EFF’s Response and Political Pressure

Upon reaching out to Mazwi Blose for comment, he directed inquiries to Nkululeko Ngcobo, the party’s provincial secretary. Ngcobo contradicted the police’s version of events, asserting that Blose had accompanied him for questioning and that they would let the law take its course as law-abiding citizens.

Ngcobo also mentioned, “It’s worth noting that the police are telling us that there’s too much political pressure on this case. They were pressured to arrest him before the manifesto, in line with what they wanted to achieve.”

Ngizwe Mchunu’s Reaction

Ngizwe Mchunu, who had previously threatened to stop EFF leader Julius Malema’s manifesto launch rally in Durban, expressed jubilation at Blose’s arrest. He stated, “Iboshiwe leyo nj* [that d** has been arrested]. I am vindicated now that an arrest has been made.”

Mchunu, consistent in blaming EFF members for the attack during his press briefing, called for justice to be served. The incident, captured in a viral video, showed a group of men disrupting Mchunu’s briefing by kicking and dragging chairs, tables, and cameras to the floor.

Blose’s Denial and Mchunu’s Change of Plans

Blose, despite evidence indicating his involvement, refuted claims of leading the disruption. In an interview, he stated, “There’s no video where I appear to be entering. Social media allegations and fabrications must not be misread as facts.”

Mchunu had initially faced resistance from the police when organizing a cultural funfair festival in opposition to the EFF manifesto launch. The police ordered the dismantling of the stage set up at Gugu Dlamini Park.

Efforts to obtain comments from the EFF and the police regarding the incident were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
