 Two Umkhonto Wesizwe Party Members Shot Dead During a Fight With ANC Members

In a tragic development, two Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party members were shot and killed in Katlehong, South East of Johannesburg.

Deadly Clash Between MK and ANC Members Ahead of Elections

This incident comes just days before South Africans are set to cast their votes in the national elections, and a day before the start of special voting ahead of the general election.

According to EyeWitness News, there was a fight last night involving members of the MK party and the African National Congress (ANC) at the Thwala section.

The fight escalated and resulted in two MK party members getting shot.

Police Confirm Two MK Members Killed in Katlehong Shooting

Gauteng police have since confirmed the tragic incident.

It is reported the two [MKP] members were shot and killed during a dispute with members affiliated with the ANC at Thwala section,” police spokesperson Brig Brenda Muridili.

Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says one MK member died on the scene, while another passed away while being ferried to the hospital.

“One victim died at the scene while the other was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. One firearm and a knife were recovered at the scene. The motive for the incident will form part of the investigations,” she added.

According to the police report, one person has since been arrested for the murder.

The deaths of the two MK political party members have sparked concern and worry on social media. Netizens have argued that politics is a ‘dirty game’, bemoaning the spike in political violence ahead of the upcoming elections.
