A woman from KwaMashu was discovered dead at a lodge after she had a steamy encounter with her male colleague. The case has left her family, the community and her other colleagues in fear for their lives.

The family of 23-year-old Funeka Mthiyane from KwaMashu township is demanding answers after she was discovered dead at Ntibane Lodge in Pinetown, Durban. Funeka allegedly went missing on Friday night after leaving her home at around 10 pm to meet a male colleague.

The woman was meeting with a Senior Colleague from work

Funeka’s aunt, Nokuthula Ndlovu, expressed the family’s need to understand the circumstances leading to Funeka’s tragic demise. According to Ndlovu, Funeka informed her younger sister that she was meeting a male friend who held a senior position at their workplace. Strangely, Funeka’s father also knows the male friend as he works in the same company.

Ndlovu shared details from the lodge’s surveillance footage, revealing that the male friend and Funeka checked in together. The footage shows them walking hand in hand, with the male friend appearing somewhat intoxicated. After two hours, the male friend is seen leaving the room, informing the receptionist that Funeka would follow him shortly. However, she never did.

Gruesome Discovery

The family received news from the police about Funeka’s body being discovered at the lodge. The cleaners made the gruesome discovery the next day. Disturbingly, the male friend seems unaffected by the tragedy, going about his business as usual. Ndlovu suspects an argument took place in the lodge, leading to Funeka’s tragic end. The family demands answers, and Funeka’s colleagues seek justice on her behalf.

The Mthiyane family is anxiously awaiting updates from the police on the progress of Funeka’s murder investigation. Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the KZN police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating, “Sydenham police are investigating an inquest docket after a body was found on Varsity Drive, Reservoir Hills. Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.”
