Delayed Justice Takes Toll on Former Sizokuthola Presenter Xolani Khumalo’s Family Amid Murder Trial

The prolonged legal battle faced by former Sizokuthola presenter Xolani Khumalo, accused of the murder of Robert “Kicks” Varrie, has cast a shadow on his family’s well-being.

Xolani Khumalo appeared in court on Thursday, facing charges related to the alleged assault of Varrie during the filming of the TV show in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, on 19 July 2023.

According to the Daily Sun, the case, initially postponed to 11 April, has encountered an unexpected obstacle as the court demanded the TV show to provide video footage capturing the alleged drug dealer’s killing. Varrie was declared dead after being interrogated during the filming, leading to a series of charges against Xolani, including murder, robbery, and property damage.

Currently out on R20,000 bail, Xolani’s family is feeling the strain as the legal proceedings stretch on. State prosecutor Pheello Vilakazi revealed that, despite the investigating officer receiving the docket on 30 January, essential video footage from Moja Love, the network airing Sizokuthola, is still outstanding.

This footage is crucial for an identity parade involving TV crew members present during the incident.

The video will assist in identifying some TV crew who were at the scene when the incident happened,” explained Vilakazi.

Another piece of footage, captured on a cellphone during the incident, is under forensic examination to confirm its relevance to the case.

Xolani’s lawyer and advocate, Prince Mafu, expressed growing frustration over the delay, highlighting the impact on Xolani Khumalo’s family.

The case was postponed three months ago, but, shockingly, nothing has been done to get the video footage. My client is a sole breadwinner, and the longer the case drags, the more he remains on the sidelines of employment, and his family is suffering.”
