Comedienne And Radio Presenter Maritjie Bothma Dies
Intombi Yomzulu, the well-known South African TV and radio personality, Maritjie Bothma, has sadly passed away.
Maritjie, who was also renowned for her comedic talent, passed away yesterday at the age of 39 after a brief illness, as disclosed by ZiMoja.
Confirmation Of Maritjie Bothma’s Death
The unfortunate news of Maritjie Bothma’s untimely death was confirmed by Sauma HD Radio, her place of work. However, the radio station did not disclose the specific illness that led to the demise of the talented presenter, who was highly proficient in the isiZulu language.
“It is with sadness to announce that one of our radio family presenters, Marietjie Bothma passed on today, 29 May 2023. Lala ngoxolo Sisi Marietjie Bothma. Good night.”
Marietjie was raised in the KwaSizabantu Mission, a highly controversial institution in KwaZulu Natal.
Abuse Allegations At KwaSizabantu Mission
Being someone who was once a member of the church, she stepped forward and made accusations regarding human rights violations connected to the church’s mission.
In 2020, she provided her testimony at the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious, and Linguistic Communities, revealing that she had endured physical and sexual abuse during her tenure there.
In her testimony, she stated that at the tender age of five, she was coerced into participating in a disturbing act alongside the daughters of the church leader.
