Late Legendary boxer Dingaan Thobela’s children are already fighting with their grandfather over the Estate of their father barely two weeks after his burial.
In the wake of Dingaan Thobela’s passing, a family dispute over his estate quickly emerged. The legendary boxer, who passed away at the age of 57 on April 29, 2024, was found deceased in his Johannesburg apartment. With his burial taking place just two weeks ago, tensions have already risen among his surviving family members regarding the division of his assets.
Dingaan Thobela’s Children and Father In Dispute Over Assets
Reports from ZiMoja indicate that Dingaan’s 14 children are advocating for an equal distribution of his assets. In contrast, his father, Godfrey Thobela, is allegedly asserting control over the estate. This contentious issue has now been taken to court, with Godfrey being served a summons.
A neighbour who spoke with ZiMoja mentioned that Dingaan had not returned home for the past three years. “He lived alone when he passed away. He never visited his family home and resided in a back room of a deteriorating building where he owned several shops in Langlaagte,” the neighbour disclosed. The body of the boxing legend was discovered in a state of decomposition in this back room.
Financial Arrangements Under Scrutiny
Following his death, Dingaan’s father reportedly provided his own banking details for clients of The Rose Funeral Parlour to deposit money. “With Dingaan’s accounts frozen, Godfrey placed his personal banking details on the funeral parlour’s door, instructing clients to make deposits directly into his account,” the neighbour revealed.

Godfrey Thobela’s Response
Confirming the legal summons, Godfrey Thobela expressed his uncertainty about the court proceedings. He agreed that his grandchildren are taking him to court and that he has already received the summons. The older man claims that he does not know why they are taking the legal route but thinks it’s because of the division of his son’s assets. Godfrey also mentioned that Dingaan’s property in Langlaagte remains intact, and his vehicles, which are undergoing repairs, have yet to be reclaimed.
