Dr Melusi Dlamini Suspended Over A Stupid Tweet

A stupid tweet by Marie Stopes SA’s  Director of Clinical Services, Dr Melusi Dlamini  bragging about how he caused someone to commit suicide has landed him in hot soup after the  reproductive health service provider suspended him

Dr Melusi Dlamini came under fire on social media platform Twitter when he commented on the issue of homophobia and transphobia following disgraced podcaster MacG’s scandal. In his own words, Dr Melusi Dlamini said that he had pushed someone into committing suicide by blacklisting them from all the universities in South Africa after they had made a homophobic post.

The abortion services provider did not stop there, however. He went on to declare that he would do it again without flinching and ominously warned those who make his life a living hell: “You will die”

“I’ve told you the story of how I got someone blacklisted from ever registering at any university in SA until he killed himself? All because he wrote a homophobic Facebook status. I’d do it all over again, without even flinching.”

“You don’t get to make my existence a living hell and expect me to be civil. You will die.”

Dr Dlamini soon deleted the posts following a massive outcry on social media. Many people questioned his medical ethics saying that health professionals are not supposed to do harm no matter their personal feelings. This resulted in some social media users writing to his employer, Marie Stopes South Africa to highlight the conduct of their employee.

Marie Stopes announced on Wednesday that they had suspended Dr Melusi Dlamini pending the outcome of an internal investigation into his conduct. In a terse statement, Marie Stopes South Africa said,

“We are aware of recent comments made by one of our employees on social media.

The employee in question has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

At Marie Stopes South Africa, our commitment to providing non-judgemental, client-centred healthcare is unwavering and this is an expectation we uphold for all employees.”
