Dr. Tumi Announces New Album Release!
Multi-platinum selling South African gospel sensation Dr. Tumi has finally let the cat out of the bag, announcing his long-awaited comeback to the music scene with a much anticipated fifth studio album. Though the album release date has not been confirmed, the gospel artist posted a cover image from a photo shoot for the upcoming album titled The Great Sheperd.
“@DrTumi_ So cover shoot for The Great Shepherd done. I pray that it ministers healing to your hearts. This can only mean the album is ready… Date to follow… #TGS can’t quite do the #over40challenge yet cause i only hit 40 in July but yeh. Album on the way”
From the township of Seshego on the outskirts of Polokwane in Limpopo, Dr. Tumi obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery qualification from the Sefako Makgato Medical University in Ga-Rankuwa Pretoria. Boasting 12 years’ worth of experience in the medical field, the singing doctor had set up a private practice in his hometown which operated for a decade before making a life-changing decision to leave the public health sector for a career in music.
The award-winning vocalist took the South African gospel by storm with his chart-topping 2013 debut album Heart of King, winning awards such as The Crown Gospel Awards and Metro FM Awards. He made headlines last year April when he publicly announced a hiatus from his prosperous music career to join medical practitioners across the country in the frontline of the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.
His enchanting vocals delivered in his signature Model C accent has often seen him the center of social media jokes and memes made in jest. Fans were thrilled to hear news of their favorite gospel artist’s latest offering, but most could not contain their disbelief learning that the Wafika artist would soon be turning 40.
Here are some of their reactions:
