Two Durban sangomas are in the spotlight for bickering and fighting over the death of Ukhozi FM presenter Zanele Mbokazi.

Popular inyanga Bhaka “King Bhaka” Nzama slammed another prominent traditional healer, Dr Khehlelezi, accusing him of being an opportunist who exploits public information and passes it off as prophecy.

How The Radio Personality Died

Ukhozi FM host and founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, Zanele Mbokazi, passed away on 12 August 2024. She had been diagnosed with lung cancer in May.

Zanele got sick one Sunday in April and lost her voice during a show on Ukhozi FM. She went to hospital, and after a round of tests, doctors discovered she had lung cancer.

Later on, sangoma Dr Khehlelezi predicted that two Ukhozi FM presenters would die this year.

Bhaka claims Dr Khehlelezi made this prediction after it was already publicly known that Zanele had lung cancer. Bhaka is now urging people to keep their medical conditions private to prevent opportunistic prophets from making predictions based on existing information.

Bhaka emphasised to the Daily Sun the importance of doctor-patient or inyanga-patient confidentiality to protect against opportunism:

“It was also meant to avoid those who claim they prophesied from having assurance. Zanele’s family was honest in telling the nation about her condition, not knowing that opportunists would use it to claim they were prophesying.

“Even doctors, who previously told people how long they would live with cancer, are not allowed to do so because it puts pressure on the patient. When the nation was informed that Zanele was ill, everyone was supposed to support her and the family, not spread fake prophecies. When Zanele was discharged from the hospital, she said she had heard about the fake prophecies.”

Dr Khehlelezi refused to comment on Bhaka’s claims.
