Eastern Cape Cafe Demands R45K Refund From DJ Zinhle’s Husband Murdah Bongz After No-Show

The owners of Jola Cafe Lifestyle Lounge in Sterkspruit, Eastern Cape, are demanding a R45,000 refund from renowned DJ and producer Bongani “Murdah Bongz” Mohosana after he failed to perform at their venue over the weekend.

Murdah Bongz, who hails from Soshanguve, Pretoria, was booked for a gig but reportedly did not show up, leaving the establishment frustrated and out of pocket.

“He Performed Elsewhere After Cancelling on Us”

According to The Sunday World, The cafe claims Murdah Bongz cited illness as the reason for his cancellation—only for them to later discover he performed at another event shortly afterward.

While we understand health concerns, we find it disappointing that he plans to proceed with other events that are happening tomorrow shortly after notifying us of his condition. This undermines the respect owed to all fans, whether they are in Sandton or Sterkspruit,” read a statement from the lounge.

Financial Blow: Sound, Stage, and Lost Revenue

The owners say they had already invested heavily in sound equipment, staging, and promotions ahead of Murdah ’s scheduled performance.

This cancellation has resulted in significant financial losses for us. We don’t want an alternative date; we want a refund with costs.”

Social Media Reacts

Reacting to the news, social media users have slammed Murdah Bongz for snubbing Jola Cafe Lifestyle Lounge gig. Netizens urged him to refund Jola Cafe their money.

@Hand_ANC;

Haybo such a disrespect 🤦🏾‍♂️

@lwandie_p;

Mkr Morda Bongz gladly accepted money for the gig from Sterkspruit Jola Cafe and only for him to play the
“ I’m not feeling well “ card. People should stop booking Morda Bongz and that scammer should pay back the money.

@ChrisExcel102;

What if Morda Bongz can’t take gigs from other provinces because sis Zee told him to perform around Joburg so that he can go home early to Babysit kids….

Think about it 😭😭😭😭

@PamelaQha;

South African Artists have now turned it into a habit to scam small event organisers especially in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo by accepting their booking ( which require full payments upfront) then not show up. DJ Zinhle’s husband Morda is the latest culprit.
