Billionaire’s Nightmare: Edwin Sodi’s Lavish Mansion Hits Market at Jaw-Dropping R75 Million
Popular businessman Edwin Sodi is set to lose a luxurious mansion in Morningside.
The stunning property, listed at an impressive R75 million, was put on the market by Lynn Petzer of Lynn Estates just a week ago. Sodi’s assets, including cars, houses, and his company, were recently auctioned off last Saturday.
The mansion, sprawling over 4,000 square meters, boasts five bedrooms and five bathrooms, according to its listing on Property24. Nestled in the heart of Sandton, the property is described as the pinnacle of luxury living.
Featuring a grand double-volume entrance hall with a striking feature wall, glass door, and modern floating staircase, the mansion offers an entertainer’s lounge with a marble fireplace and bar, a 20-seater fire pit, an outdoor cinema, a built-in bar with a cigar lounge, a gym, and secure parking for up to 20 vehicles.
Previously, Edwin Sodi called this mansion home and has hosted lavish parties there in the past, attracting numerous influencers and celebrities who shared glimpses of the opulent space on social media. In fact, Sodi celebrated his 50th birthday at this very residence in September 2023.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) asset forfeiture unit seized Sodi’s possessions in 2020, including 29 cars, 27 properties, 19 active accounts, and household goods associated with him and his company, Blackhead Consulting. Blackhead Consulting has been embroiled in controversies surrounding two lucrative tenders: the R295 million Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works contract and the R255 million asbestos contract in the Free State, both under scrutiny by the Special Investigating Unit.
Sodi, alongside Ace Magashule, the former secretary-general of the ANC, and 17 others, is slated to stand trial on April 15, facing charges of money laundering and corruption related to the botched asbestos tender.
Under an order seizing assets valued at R300 million, Sodi’s house and other properties were placed under restraint. Recent reports suggest that the NPA’s spokesperson, Mthunzi Mhaga, clarified that the house and other properties would only be forfeited to the state if Sodi is found guilty.
As of now, the NPA has not provided immediate comment on the sale of the mansion.
