EFF Commander in Chief Julius Malema Lands in Hot Water Over Cow Slaughtering Incident
The president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, finds himself in a sticky situation for butchering a cow.
Malema’s cow slaughter, caught on camera, sparked public outrage and numerous pleas for the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) to intervene.
EFF Leader’s Botched Cow Slaughter Sparks Outcry
In the footage, Malema struggled repeatedly to deliver a fatal blow to the back of the cow’s head, causing distress and harm to the defenceless animal trapped in a cage.
During the weekend, Malema initiated the EFF’s ceremonial slaughter of livestock, which had been donated in celebration of the party’s 10th anniversary. The ceremony took place at Portion 39 farm, Koestersfontein 45, Magaliesburg in Gauteng Province.
According to a report from The Citizen, EFF supporters donated over 100 cattle ahead of the party’s 10th-anniversary rally, scheduled to be held at FNB Stadium on the 29th of this month.
NSPCA Investigating Julius Malema For Cow Slaughtering Incident
The NSPCA has responded to the calls for action against Julius Malema’s cruel act of slaughtering a cow.
In an email screenshot, National Inspector Majahencwala Madonsela from the NSPCA’s Society Liason Unit acknowledged the issue and stated that the Farm Animals Protection Unit is handling the matter.
Here’s what the email says:
Good day
Thank you for contacting the National Council of SPCA’s.
If you are referring to the video of Mr Julias Malema slaughtering a bovine, kindly be advised that the NSPCA Farm Animals Protection Unit is dealing with the matter.
The NSPCA’s course of action remains uncertain. Malema joins a list of politicians who have faced the scrutiny of this organisation.
A few years ago, Thandi Modise faced private prosecution on behalf of the NSPCA. She faced charges of animal cruelty, involving multiple animals that perished or suffered from malnutrition on her farm in North West in 2014 while she held the position of the province’s premier.
Magistrate Ben Mtebele dismissed the case against Modise, citing a lack of substantial evidence against her.
