Emotional Encore: “Sonto” Connie Chiume Takes Her Final Bow, Leaving Gomora in Tears

Veteran South African actor Connie Chiume, who plays Sonto on Gomora, has exited the show in an emotional farewell.

Exodus At Gomora

Connie has been one of the protagonists of the hit telenovela since its first episode in March 2020 and blew fans away with her grit as the bold and ruthless Sonto.

However, the show was canned and will be closing its curtains in October, and its characters have been leaving the show one by one. This year, the show has seen the exit of Siphesihle Ndaba (MaZet) and Ntobeko Sishi (Ntokozo), among others.

Recently, Connie Chiume shot her last episode, and the cast and crew of Gomora gave her a hearty farewell party. The Gomora Team sang for her as tears welled up in her eyes, overwhelmed by emotion.

Actress Siyasanga Papu, who plays Sonto’s daughter Pretty in the telenovela, fought back the tears as she expressed how hard it was to bid farewell to Connie Chiume.

Connie Chiume told TshisaLIVE:

“I’m going to miss the people I have been working with. Four years is such a long time. You get to bond, to know and understand one another — that’s the first thing I’m going to miss. Another would be the team that we were working with, from actors to the crew. We were working with very professional people who made sure that the stories that were written appeared as is.

“That’s why Gomora, even after four years as it is ending, is still on the number one spot. So I’m going to miss that creativity and professionalism among my colleagues and just being able to work together, you know, those interpersonal relationships.”
