Emtee Cleared Of Assault Charges As Wife Withdraws Case
Mthembeni Ndevu, popularly known as Emtee, has been cleared of assault charges by his wife, Nicole Chinsamy. The rapper handed himself over to the police on March 8, 2023, and was charged with assault for allegedly attacking his wife while she was seven months pregnant on Valentine’s Day. However, according to a statement shared by Sunday World, Nicole withdrew the gender-based violence case against him, stating that she forgives him for the sake of their children.
Nicole withdraws the charges against Emtee
Emtee appeared at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on May 2. Nicole said in a statement, “On 03/03/2023, I opened a common assault case under domestic violence against my husband Mthembeni Ndebele. He was arrested on 08/03/2023. Therefore, I hereby wish to withdraw the charges against Mthembeni Ndevu. I forgave him for the sake of my kids.” She also expressed satisfaction with the investigation and court proceedings.

Mixed emotions for Emtee
Emtee’s lawyer, Dumisani Motsamai, said that they are happy about the withdrawal of charges, but they have mixed emotions since Emtee has been deprived of proving his innocence in court. He added that Emtee would always carry the label of being a woman basher in the court of public opinion, regardless of the withdrawal of charges.

Emtee rejects anger management classes
The rapper’s team rejected anger management classes proposed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). Motsamai wrote, “A diversion programme, whilst not necessarily a form of punishment, is nevertheless a form of corrective measure aimed at rehabilitating a past offender. It is an intervention that is typically offered as an alternative sentence to accused people whom the court believes ought to be afforded an opportunity to be corrected and thereafter be reintegrated back to society. For reasons already set out extensively above, the accused in this instance does not tick the box.”
