In a groundbreaking BBC documentary titled “The Cult of TB Joshua,” shocking and damning revelations have emerged about the late Nigerian prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB Joshua. One survivor, who chose to remain anonymous, discloses that she was handpicked by Joshua himself from the church’s Sunday school. Several months later, she was raped in Joshua’s private quarters after her parents entrusted her to his care. Shockingly, she reveals that she was then coerced into becoming a resident disciple.
Another victim, Rae revealed that TB Joshua also specifically handpicked her to become a disciple. She anticipated studying under Joshua to learn how to heal people, but instead, she found herself trapped in a living nightmare. Rae describes the compound as a place where terrible things happened, despite the disciples initially believing they were in heaven.
Recruitment of Young Virgin Girls: The Disturbing Role of Trusted Disciples
The revelations continue with accounts from other victims who were forced by TB Joshua to participate in the recruitment of young women for his abusive acts. These victims, known as his trusted Nigerian disciples, were part of an informal group referred to as the “fishing department.” Their role was to identify new young virgin girls for Joshua’s heinous crimes. To their horror, these women were manipulated and coerced into carrying out the recruitment, subjecting innocent young girls to a life of abuse and trauma.
Bisola, another disciple who was also part of the group that would recruit young virgin girls for TB Joshua, revealed that she was forced by the prophet to select young virgin girls for him to abuse.
“TB Joshua asked me to recruit virgins for him… So that he could bring them into the disciple-fold and disvirgin them,” she says
She revealed that at midnight, the recruited virgins would be called up to his bedroom where he would deflower them.

She explained that she participated due to indoctrination and threats of violence, adding that she herself was repeatedly raped by Joshua.

Survivor Testimonies: Shedding Light on Manipulative Tactics
Testimonies from numerous survivors indicate that TB Joshua was involved in the abuse and rape of young women from around the world, with incidents occurring several times a week over a period of nearly 20 years.
Jessica, a former disciple from Namibia, shared her experience of being raped by Joshua in his penthouse bathroom when she was just 17 and a virgin. This pattern of abuse continued throughout her five-year tenure as a disciple.
Sixteen former disciples also provided firsthand accounts of sexual assault or rape by Joshua, with some describing violent encounters that left them struggling for breath or bleeding.
TB Joshua would rape the young virgins and then take the bloody sheets to the prayer mountain. The documentary also reveals that Joshua’s male personal servants were also tasked with cleaning up the physical evidence of the abuse.
Many of the victims believed they were the only ones being assaulted and were too afraid to share their experiences with other disciples, as they were encouraged to report on each other.
Underage Victims: Impregnation and Forced Abortions
Shockingly, some of the survivors claim they were underage at the time of the assaults, with a number stating that they were impregnated by Joshua and subsequently forced to undergo abortions within the compound’s “medical department” or “clinic.”
TB Joshua, considered one of Africa’s most influential pastors, passed away unexpectedly in June 2021. The shocking revelations brought to light by the BBC documentary have raised serious questions about the extent of his abuses and the need for justice for the victims who suffered under his authority.
