Fans express concern for Babes Wodumo’s appearance at Metro FM Music Awards
South African musician Babes Wodumo’s fans have expressed concern over her appearance at the Metro FM Music Awards, which were held on Saturday,
May 6, at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga. According to viewers, her performance was not up to her usual standard, which some attributed to the recent passing of her husband and Big Nuz group member, Mandla Maphumulo.

The Wololo hitmaker’s husband, affectionately known as Mampitsha, passed away on December 24 after a stroke. “Babes Wodumo is still mourning her husband. She is probably crying backstage after hearing the voice of her late husband on that back track. She was even crying on stage, obviously most people didn’t see it; her voice was strained even before she started singing,” said one fan.
Appearance at award ceremony raises concerns
Fans noticed that the mom-of-one looked out of place on stage when the Afrotainment crew accompanied their boss, Mthokozisi “DJ Tira” Khathi, to accept his ‘Best Music Video’ award. While everyone on stage – including DJ’s wife Gugu Khathi and Big Nuz’s Danger – looked happy and in a celebratory mood, fans could not help but notice that Babes looked sad.
