A female influencer from Mexico was horrifically killed by a train while she was attempting to take the perfect selfie.

The woman in her mid-20s was fatally struck by a train while attempting to take a photo near Nopala de Villagrán, northwest of Mexico City. The tragic incident occurred as a Canadian Pacific 2816 steam locomotive, known as the ‘Empress’, was passing through.

The victim, wearing an orange top, was preparing to take a picture with a child nearby. As the train approached, the child ducked down, and the woman positioned herself to take the photo.

She dropped to one knee, and the corner of the train engine struck her on the back of her head, sending her crashing forward. A shocked child ran away as a nearby man quickly dragged the woman’s body away from the passing train.

Emergency services arrived at the scene but were only able to confirm the woman’s death. Local reports indicate she was with her son and children from a nearby school.

The Canadian Pacific 2816, built in 1930, was on a special tour across Canada, the US, and Mexico as part of the Final Spike Steam Tour. This tour celebrates the merger that created Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC). The tour, which began in Calgary in April, is set to conclude in Mexico City on 7 June. The meticulously restored locomotive will return to Canada in July for retirement.

Following the incident, Canadian Pacific Kansas City released a statement:

“A woman has been fatally injured while she was very close to the track taking a picture. This tragic incident is under investigation. We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and wish to express our condolences to the family and loved ones of this lady,” CPKC Mexico said.

The company emphasized the importance of safety around railway tracks:

“CPKC Mexico is cooperating with the relevant authorities and will make all the necessary information available to investigators. CPKC Mexico calls on people who come to witness the passing of this locomotive to take precautions and not approach or cross the railway tracks for their own safety and that of the crew on board.”

The company stressed that spectators should remain at least 10 meters away from the tracks.

“People should never stop near or on the tracks themselves or try to climb onto the train or any railway infrastructure. Always be careful around railway tracks and trains,” the statement added.
