Flirting Fiasco| How R40K And Expensive Drinks Turned Thuli Phongolo And DJ Maphorisa’s Night Out Ugly
Thuli Phongolo and DJ Maphorisa’s altercation was supposedly triggered by a “baller” who had made advances towards the actress the previous night.
Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, who goes by the stage name Maphorisa, was taken into custody on Sunday, May 7th. He was granted bail of R4 000 after his court hearing the next day.
According to Sunday World, the artist behind the hit song “Izolo” became agitated when a man displayed interest in Thuli. Apparently, the unknown man tried to win over the former Generations: The Legacy actress by purchasing pricey beverages for her table.
“He was balling and somehow he made advances to Thuli and promised to send her R40 000 on the spot to show off,” a source was quoted as saying.
“Maphorisa found out and got angry because he does a lot of things for Thuli. That is disrespectful. So, he threw a tantrum, which later escalated to the assault when they got home,” the source continued.
The couple allegedly argued in full view of everyone.
City Press revealed on Sunday that the 29-year-old star of Rockville had lodged a gender-based violence (GBV) complaint against the owner of BlaqBoy Music record label.
According to the publication, the alleged assault occurred at the actress’s apartment in Sandton, Johannesburg.
“On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig,” said Phongolo in the statement.
She alleged that Maphorisa became aggressive and punched her on her chest, also slapping her across the face and with his elbow on her
“He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” the statement continued.
The actress reportedly sustained bruises on her neck, chest, arms and right cheek.
