Former Bafana Bafana Defender Siboniso Gaxa Graduates With Another Degree at 40
Siboniso Gaxa, a former Bafana Bafana player from Kwa-Mashu in KwaZulu-Natal, continues to inspire through education. At 40, Gaxa added another achievement to his remarkable journey, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Witwatersrand on Monday. Once a car guard in Durban, the three-time graduate aims to motivate others to prioritize learning.
Siboniso Gaxa Graduates With Law Degree
This isn’t Gaxa’s first academic milestone. He holds a Sports Management qualification from Boston Media College and earned a degree in Political Science and Social Studies from Wits in 2019. “Education has always been important to me and a driving force in my career,” he shared.
Unlike many of his football peers who turned to coaching after retiring, Gaxa chose a different path. His passion for law grew during his time with the South African Football Association (SAFA), where he served as secretary for the ethics committee and worked in the integrity office.
Footballers Leading in Education
Gaxa joins a growing list of footballers proving that discipline on the field can translate to success in academics. Percy Tau, for example, holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of South Africa, while Tshireletso Motsogi has a BSc in Engineering: Metallurgy and Materials. Thabiso Lebitso, another player, earned a Sports Management qualification from Tshwane University of Technology.
Giving Back to the Community
Beyond his achievements, Gaxa is dedicated to making a difference. He is the founding director of the Pa Gaxa Foundation, a nonprofit organization promoting sports, education, and healthy lifestyles in underprivileged communities.
