Controversy Over Nationality and Pageant Eligibility
Chidimma’s participation in the Miss South Africa pageant sparked a heated debate about her nationality, prompting an investigation. The Miss South Africa organizers asked the nation’s Home Affairs department to investigate her eligibility. The department’s initial probe revealed that Chidimma’s mother might have committed “identity theft” to obtain South African citizenship. However, the statement clarified that Chidimma herself “could not have participated in the alleged unlawful actions of her mother as she was an infant at the time.”
