Former Bodyguard of Late Rapper AKA Arrested in Connection with University of Fort Hare Corruption Scandal
Anwar Khan, the former bodyguard of late South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, has been arrested.
Law enforcement authorities arrested Anwar Khan in connection with a high-profile fraud and corruption case at the University of Fort Hare.

Khan, who owns The Pentagon Group, a private security agency based in KwaZulu-Natal, was AKA’s bodyguard for 8 years.
He appeared in the Dimbaza Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, alongside 14 other accused following their arrest over the Easter weekend, IOL reveals.
Initially, the police had indicated that the suspects faced a range of charges, including fraud, corruption, kidnapping, murder, and attempted murder. However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has since clarified that all 15 individuals are now facing charges of fraud, racketeering, and corruption.
This latest development adds to the growing list of arrests related to crimes at the University of Fort Hare, with a total of 25 people now in custody. Some of the suspects are facing additional charges of murder and attempted murder. The previous incidents include the fatal shooting of Fort Hare fleet manager Peet Roets in May 2022 and the targeted killing of bodyguard Mboneli Vesele outside the residence of Vice-Chancellor and Principal Sakhela Buhlungu in January 2023.

High-Profile Bounties Revealed in University Murder Plot- 25 Arrested, Including Taxi Bosses and Police Constable
Reports had previously surfaced suggesting significant bounties were placed on the lives of key university personnel, including a staggering R5 million for the assassination of VC Buhlungu, R350,000 for Roets, and R3 million for another senior member.
Among the individuals apprehended are prominent taxi bosses from KwaZulu-Natal and a 31-year-old Eastern Cape police constable, Lindokuhle Manjati.
National Police Commissioner Vows Justice in University Corruption and Murder Investigation
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola emphasized that an investigative team is diligently working to uncover the full extent of fraud, corruption, and the murders at the university. “We are determined to bring those responsible to justice and ensure that the evidence collected stands strong in court,” Masemola stated.
The case has been adjourned until Wednesday to allow for a formal bail application, and the 15 accused individuals will remain in custody.
