PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme Details
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has created a scheme to help candidates gain knowledge and benefit from world–class universities. Under it, candidates are invited to apply through PTDF to specific programmes at partner institutions. Candidates can apply through PTDF to study in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
The award includes the cost of flights, health insurance, tuition and bench fees (if applicable), and money for accommodation and living expenses. This scheme starts in 2023/2024 and only the best universities will be chosen to take part.

Eligibility Criteria to qualify
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to Nigerian students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies abroad. This scholarship is available to both Masters and PhD students.
In order to be eligible for the PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, applicants must have met the following conditions:
- Academic Merit Applicants must demonstrate their academic merit through their degrees, full academic transcripts, and other professional qualifications acquired.
- Relevant Publications Applicants must provide relevant publications to be referenced by the applicant. This requirement is only applicable to those who are applying for a PhD program.
- Membership in Professional Bodies Applicants must be members of professional bodies.
- Study/Research Plan Viability The study/research plan proposed by the applicant must be deemed viable by the selection committee.
The PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme is an opportunity for Nigerian students to pursue postgraduate studies abroad. MSc Requirements
- A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
- Must be computer literate
- Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
- Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
- Applicants must have National Identity Number (NIN) and verification will be required (NIMC verification charges apply), before applying for the scholarship.
PhD Requirements
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
- Must be computer literate
- A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate
- A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than five pages) to include the following:
- Title
- Introduction
- Research Problem
- Aim
- Research Questions/Objectives
- Scope
- Summarized Literature
- Methodology
- Expected outcomes only where necessary
All lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellors confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships (if shortlisted)

Candidates who successfully scale through the first round of screening will be requested to submit their transcripts; all applicants are therefore advised to prepare their transcripts for submission in anticipation of such a request.
