Dr Qwabe’s Claim to Fame

Dr. Qwabe first caught the public’s attention due to his unique style of dress, which is not typically associated with medical doctors. With his lively personality and popular TikTok videos, he has won the hearts of many South Africans, blending his kasi look with his profession.

However, not everyone was impressed with Dr Qwabe’s unorthodox approach, with some claiming that he was bringing his profession into disrepute and breaking the code of conduct. The matter even reached the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), which clarified that it does not regulate how doctors dress or their lifestyle, but rather their work-related conduct.

“The HPCSA does not regulate how its registered practitioners dress or their lifestyle. We only regulate their work-related code of conduct with the sole purpose of guiding the profession to protect the public,’ HPCSA spokesperson Christopher Tsatsawane told The Sowetan.
