Robbers in Blue: Gospel Singer Sipho Makhabane Robbed and Hijacked at Gunpoint
Veteran gospel singer Sipho Makhabane is lucky to be alive after being robbed and hijacked by gunmen while at a traffic light in Johannesburg CBD.
The incident, which left Makhabane traumatized, unfolded near Booysens when a car with blue lights pulled up next to his vehicle.

Disguised as Police: Robbers Deceive Makhabane by Posing as Law Enforcement Officers
Assuming it was law enforcement, Makhabane was caught off guard when the occupants of the car turned out to be robbers. Recounting the incident to Zimoja, Sipho Makhabane shared,
“I thought it was law enforcement, but it turned out to be robbers disguised as police. The supposed officers stopped me and asked that I get out of the car before another group of men in another vehicle arrived and forced me into the car with the blue lights.”
Traumatic Hostage Situation: Makhabane Endures Three-Hour Ordeal as Gunmen Demand Money
As fear gripped him, Makhabane realized the situation could escalate into a kidnapping.
“I was afraid. I asked them not to hurt me; I have a family. I don’t think they recognized me,” he added.
Fortunately, by cooperating with the robbers, Makhabane managed to escape physical harm. However, the armed assailants seized his car and held him, hostage, for an agonizing three hours, demanding money.
Describing the ordeal, Makhabane revealed,
“They wanted my bank pin and forced me to withdraw money from my account. Robbers instructed me to increase my limit on my banking app, which I did. They took everything from my account and left me stranded. The robbers kept me there for more than three hours to ensure they retrieved all the money.”
Makhabane’s Survival Tactics During the Harrowing Incident
Throughout the distressing experience, Makhabane sought solace in prayer.
“I prayed through the ordeal. I thought I would die; all I could do was pray,” he shared, highlighting the emotional toll the incident had taken on him.
