DJ Maphorisa Slammed for Pulling a No-show at Easter Event, Organiser Demands Refund
Renowned DJ Maphorisa has landed in hot water after failing to show up for his scheduled performance at the Phola Sundays Easter edition at Scotch and Sofa in Daveyton.
The popular event, which drew thousands of fans, had Maphorisa as one of its headline acts, making his absence all the more disappointing for attendees.
Organiser Says His Brand Is Damaged
Speaking to TimesLive, event organiser Zwelakhe Masango did not mince his words as he expressed frustration over the situation.
“DJ Maphorisa dented my brand with his antics. Now people will never trust me in events I hope to host,” he said.
Masango explained that the team had made every effort to accommodate Maphorisa, including adjusting the performance schedule multiple times, but the DJ still failed to appear.

Repeated Offender?
According to Masango, this isn’t the first time Maphorisa has pulled out of a gig in the area.
“He did this in March too. All the talks were successful before the event, transactions were made, and he released his gig guide with our event on it. But what he did on Sunday, I might not recover from it. He has killed my brand,” he added.
Masango confirmed that they have reached out to Maphorisa’s team, who promised to release a statement. However, the organiser insists that a refund is necessary to mitigate the damage caused.
Phola Sundays Breaks Silence
In an official statement, the Phola Sundays organisers echoed Masango’s sentiments, expressing deep disappointment over Maphorisa’s absence.
“It was with sadness and heartbreaking when DJ Maphorisa did not show up as he was one of the main reasons people had paid for tickets to the event,” the statement read.
They acknowledged efforts made to contact Maphorisa on the day, but admitted the situation was out of their control.
Hope for Clarity and Moving Forward
The organisers stressed the importance of a formal explanation from Maphorisa’s team.
“A statement from him will liberate us as a brand and we will try to do better than this event,” they said.
Despite the setback, they thanked fans and sponsors for their unwavering support and vowed to work hard to restore trust and deliver better experiences in the future.
