Injuries Force Cancellation of Music and Mental Health Event
A day before her planned appearance at the Ungazibulali Campaign, Mhlaba stumbled and fell, resulting in a sprained ankle and an undetected back injury. This incident forced her to cancel all her upcoming commitments, including her musical performance and a talk on mental health.
According to a close source, Mhlaba needed surgery to address her back injury, which she was unaware of initially. The source explained,
“She had to go through a surgery on her back so that she could be able to perform, as she couldn’t stand after hurting her ankle.”
Surgery and Recovery: Hlengiwe Mhlaba’s Struggle and Hope
It was revealed that Mhlaba had a pre-existing back condition that was worsened by the fall, necessitating a minor procedure to correct it. The source expressed concern about her missing upcoming gigs, especially during the festive season.
“Ever since she hurt her ankle, her back also got affected also, hence she had to go for the minor procedure to fix it,” the source added.
The source emphasized that Mhlaba’s focus is on her recovery and highlighted that the surgery will ultimately benefit her when she resumes performing, as being on stage for extended periods can also strain one’s back.
“This operation will also help her especially when she is on stage, remember being on stage can also affect your back- especially if you stand for a long time,” the source added.
Fortunately, Mhlaba is not facing this challenge alone; her family and friends are providing her with support during this time. When contacted for a comment, her manager, Nkululeko Khanya, declined to provide further details but promised to issue a statement soon to update her fans on her progress.
