Convicted criminal Thabo Bester made his third virtual court appearance at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court, capturing everyone’s attention with his distinctive Burberry hoodie and freshly styled hair.
On Tuesday, May 16, Bester made his appearance via video link from the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.
Alongside his co-accused, including his alleged partner Nandipha Magudumana, Bester is confronted with 16 criminal charges, which include fraud, violating a body, corruption, arson, escaping from lawful custody, and defeating the ends of justice.
Bester’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 20, and he will continue to be held in custody. It remains uncertain whether he will appear virtually or in person during his upcoming court hearing.
Just like Dr. Nandipha, Bester made a court appearance that stirred up significant attention.
Sporting a designer Burberry hoodie, Bester presented a stylish look that became a topic of conversation. In addition to his fashionable choice, he also showcased a new hairstyle, mirroring the distinctive appearance of Nandipha.
The smooth-talking criminal shaved off his long black locks, reverting to a buzz cut previously seen in past court appearances and pictures.
Thabo Bester’s “special treatment” during his virtual appearance and his choice of designer clothing sparked disapproval among many South Africans, who voiced their concerns on social media. They questioned the fairness of these allowances.
However, Bester’s legal representative, Tsoeunyane Jeremiah Pela, argued for his client’s in-person appearance in court.
Pela contended that such a presence would facilitate better consultations between them during the court proceedings, suggesting it could be more advantageous for their legal strategy.
Dr. Nandipha Magudumana also appeared via Zoom.
She did not applying for bail again today.
Her case has also been postponed to June 20.
