How EFF Saved Zahara’s House From Being Auctioned

In an unexpected turn of events, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) quietly came to the rescue of the late singer Zahara’s multimillion-dollar home, preventing it from going under the hammer last year.

As reported by Sunday World, the EFF made a payment of R100,000 towards Zahara’s home loan after the Umthwalo hitmaker publicly appealed for assistance to save her only residence from being sold to the highest bidder.

The situation arose when Nedbank, the institution that provided her with a loan for the property, obtained a judgment to sell her Roodepoort home. Zahara’s townhouse was scheduled for auction on May 7 after she defaulted on her monthly instalments of R17,665.

Revealed: Why EFF Saved Zahara’s House From Being Auctioned

In May of the previous year, Zahara disclosed to TshisaLIVE that she was on the brink of losing her home, stating that she had a six-day grace period to settle her R1.9 million home loan.

EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo confirmed the organization’s assistance to the award-winning singer, stating,

“We are not in the business of boasting about the assistance we have given to our people but we can confirm that we have helped Zahara because she was very close to our hearts.”

As of now, it remains unclear whether Zahara has managed to fully repay the loan or if the EFF’s intervention only temporarily halted the auction of her home.

Social Media Applause: South Africans Hail EFF’s Support

Following revelations that EFF extended a helping hand to Zahara during her time of need, South Africans on X (formerly Twitter), heaped praises on the Julius Malema-led political outfit. Below are some of the comments:

@mrtvthusi:

I know that politics is a dirty game and politicians have their own flaws but the love that EFF has for a black child seems genuine. Any black soul, be it Nigerian, Somalian, Zimbabwean, Tshwana etc is the darling of the EFF.

@mphahlele_papi:

Their actions show some level of compassion…particularly because they don’t announce all the good they do

@khanyisodesmond:

And you see abo Panyaza and the music executives that didn’t even know Zahara’s hometown speaking proudly of her. Well done @ModestEFF

@lebohang_elias:

The people’s organization….❤️💚🖤

@Kash_1012:

I hope y’all realise that this was not done for show, otherwise you would’ve known it already. Nkebe e trendile taba ya Zahara’s house nkebe ele bale bako next door
