On the afternoon of Monday, 13 January, renowned music producer Xowla, born Xolani Shabalala, was involved in a car accident in Highlands, Johannesburg.
The 32-year-old producer, known for his work under INKABI Records, was en route to the recording studio when the accident occurred.
Xowla’s Account of the Accident
Speaking about the incident, Xowla explained that the airbag was the primary cause of his stomach pain.
“I’m hurt on my stomach. I think the airbag hit me. That’s why it’s sore. My DJ is also hurt, but it’s nothing major—just minor injuries on his head.”

The talented producer emphasized that neither he nor his DJ had consumed alcohol before the accident.
“We were on our way to Big Zulu’s house to record in the studio. We were just two kilometres away when it happened.”
“If I hadn’t swerved to the left and driven off the road, I would have hit two or three people. They could have been seriously hurt or even killed. I couldn’t let that happen, even if it meant putting myself in harm’s way.”
Although his selfless decision resulted in injuries to himself, Xowla is grateful that no lives were lost or severely impacted due to the accident.
