The legal contention arose from a 2018 Twitter post authored by Phamotse, alleging the existence of a gay sex tape involving the media icon Basetsana Kumalo and her spouse, Romeo.

Legal Ramifications

The sentencing entails Phamotse to serve two years under house arrest alongside fulfilling unpaid community service obligations totalling 16 hours per month for the duration of the sentence. Additionally, Phamotse is mandated to undergo a comprehensive assessment by a social worker and complete specified life skills programs at her own expense.

Furthermore, Phamotse faces monetary penalties amounting to R12,000 and R18,000, each with corresponding imprisonment alternatives, should payment fail to materialize.

Following the verdict, Phamotse tendered an initial payment of R4,000, with the remaining balance subject to instalment payments within a three-month timeframe.
