“Just Give Them Away”: Podcaster Penuel Faces Backlash after Attempting to Sell Old Worn-Out Sneakers for Charity
In a surprising turn of events, popular podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa, known as “Penuel the Black Pen,” has found himself at the center of a social media storm after announcing an unconventional charity auction.
The podcaster took to Twitter to reveal his plan to part ways with his beloved Adidas Samba sneakers, which he claims to have shared a “4-year love affair” with.
However, instead of simply donating the shoes to underprivileged children, Penuel Mlotshwa decided to auction them off to the highest bidder with the intention of using the proceeds to buy shoes for the less fortunate.
“A Thank You & Farewell to My Adidas Sambas… A 4-year love affair ends today. Gonna sell them to the highest bidder & use the proceeds to buy shoes for a few underprivileged kids. DM me if you’d like to buy them”.
Penuel Worn-Out Sneaker Sale Sparks Controversy
This decision ignited a firestorm of criticism on social media, with netizens questioning the ethics of selling worn-out and visibly dirty shoes for charity.
Many social media users expressed their disapproval, urging Penuel to reconsider his approach. “Throw them away,” one user suggested, while another compared the distressed state of the shoes to having survived the Great Trek with the Boers. Others pleaded with him to donate the shoes without any expectations of getting something in return.
