Kelly Khumalo Terrified By Death Threat On Twitter Amid Senzo Meyiwa Trial

Singer and reality TV star Kelly Khumalo has been the target of a death threat on Twitter amid the ongoing trial of the murder of her late boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa.

The former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana captain was killed on 26 October 2014 while visiting Khumalo’s mother’s house in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni. Khumalo and six other people who were present at the scene claim that Meyiwa was killed by robbers who stormed into the house.

However, some social media users have accused Khumalo of being involved in Meyiwa’s death or hiding information from the police. The trial, which resumed on 26 July 2021 at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, has sparked renewed interest and speculation about the case.

Khumalo has been trending on Twitter for several days, with some users calling for her boycott and others defending her.

On 3 August, Khumalo shared her gig guide on Twitter, announcing that she will be performing at the Rusty Rocks ‘All For Women’ concert on 12 August. She added that whoever has a problem with that should vomit.

“12th of August sila engathandi ayiphalaze!” she wrote.

However, one Twitter user, whose handle is @gossipsharer, replied to Khumalo’s tweet with a chilling message:

“Hy @KellyKhumaloZA please note if ever u [sic] get shot on the day, it will be me.”

Khumalo responded to the threat by simply saying: “Ok Noted.”

Singer Feels Let Down By The Law

This is not the first time that Khumalo has received threats on her life. In a 2022 interview with eNCA, she revealed that she and her family have been threatened multiple times and that she feels let down by the law.

She also said that she is waiting for justice to be served for Meyiwa and herself.

“As a South African citizen, I trust and believe in the law to protect not just me but my family and our society. But with what has happened to me, I have had my life threatened and family threatened, not once but multiple times. And I feel like the law is not coming into place to protect and make me feel like that it is within my right to have protection for myself and my family.”
