Khama Billiat Goes AWOL As Agent And Kaizer Chiefs Issue Conflicting Statements
Khama Billiat’s fate hangs in the balance at Kaizer Chiefs Football Club as conflicting statements from the club and his agent add uncertainty to the situation.
Over the weekend, Kaizer Chiefs released a statement to clarify the situation regarding the former Zimbabwean international’s future with the club.
Kaizer Chiefs Issues Update on Khama Billiat
The club revealed that following the expiration of Billiat’s contract on June 30th this year, they had presented him with an offer to continue playing as an attacking midfielder for the team.
Amakhosi expressed their disappointment, stating that the player had not responded to the offer or made any effort to communicate with them.
Furthermore, the club highlighted that Billiat seemed to have vanished, ignoring all attempts made by the club to reach out to him through calls and messages.
According to the statement:
Following the expiry of attacking midfielder Khama Billiat’s Kaizer Chiefs contract on 30 June 2023, the Club tabled a new offer for the Zimbabwean marksman to remain with Amakhosi. However, to date, the player has not responded to the offer or any attempts to contact him.
Billiat was last seen at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on 29 June and has not answered any of the calls made or messages sent to him by the Club.
The team is currently in camp with all the players, yet Billiat, who is also expected to be there with his teammates, failed to show up and is currently nowhere to be found.
Agent Contradicts Club Statement
The club’s statement sharply contrasts with the update provided by Khama Billiat’s agent, Godfrey Bakasa.
In an interview with FARPost, Bakasa broke the silence regarding his client’s future, stating that no agreement had been reached yet.
He conveyed that while Khama Billiat desires to play for Kaizer Chiefs in the upcoming season, his decision depends on the terms of the offer presented to him. Bakasa emphasized that they are currently engaged in discussions, striving to find a mutually beneficial solution.
“Khama is obviously grateful for his time at Kaizer Chiefs and greatly respects the club. He knows the club is on a rebuilding exercise and would love to be a part of that. He’s always wanted to make history with this iconic club. But that depends on whether we reach an agreement with them. We are still in talks with them and are trying to find a good solution for both parties,” Bakasa told FARPost.
Meanwhile, there have been rumours linking Billiat to potential moves in North Africa and Saudi Arabia. When questioned about other offers, Bakasa stated that Billiat had yet to make a final decision regarding his future.
