Kwaito legend Mapaputsi, whose real name was Sandile Ngwenya, has died.

Best known for his hit song “Woza Friday,” Mapaputsi died today after battling an illness.

Family Friend Confirms Mapaputsi’s Death

A close family friend confirmed to ZiMoja that Mapaputsi passed away in the early hours of this morning.

The friend and colleague, who did not want to be named, said Mapaputsi’s family is still processing the news.

I cannot reveal all the details, as we will be waiting for his family to address the media and close friends. Sandile has passed on, he suffered dearly. He fought, but he lost the battle. The family will share all the details of his passing.”

Mapaputsi passed away just before his friends were preparing for a benefit concert to raise funds for his medical bills.

Health Battle

Mapaputsi had been battling an undisclosed illness since last year.

Just two weeks ago, he shared a more positive update, assuring fans of his improved health.

“I am okay, I am not dying, whoever said I am dying is lying,” he said in a video.

However, his condition took a turn for the worse, leaving him frail and unable to eat.

There was not much progress with his health, and he’s been bedridden since October last year,” the source shared. Mapaputsi’s family had grown increasingly concerned as his health continued to decline.

He sadly passed away under the care of his parents.
