The community was left in shock by the incident, with one eyewitness noting the callous indifference displayed by Nxumalo’s girlfriend, who reportedly continued to enjoy herself after the incident:

“That same night, she had forgotten about her dead boyfriend and the one who stabbed him. She was having a good time at the tavern. She was dancing and drinking like nothing happened. I am convinced that she never loved Sibusiso. I think she was dating him for his money. Imagine dying for someone who does not care about you. It’s painful. It was really sad seeing someone lying there in a pool of blood with all the gifts he had brought for his girlfriend.”

Confirming the tragic event, KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Nqobile Gwala stated that the Ezinqoleni SAPS were investigating the incident as a case of murder:

“A case of murder is being investigated by Ezinqoleni SAPS. It is alleged that on 14 February 2024, a 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death at KwaShobashobane area. The suspect fled the scene after the incident,”
