The Nigerian entertainment industry continues to mourn the loss of legendary Nollywood actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, as his burial date has finally been revealed. The celebrated actor, who passed away on March 2, 2024, at a hospital in Nigeria, will be laid to rest on June 28, 2024—nearly four months after his death.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, the announcement of Mr Ibu’s burial date was made by his elder brother, Sunday Okafor, who explained that the delay was to ensure that the beloved actor receives a heroic sendoff.
The Okafor family, in collaboration with the burial committee members, has planned a series of events to honor the late actor’s memory.

According to a statement jointly signed by the family and the burial committee, the burial ceremony will take place in Mr Ibu’s hometown of Amuri, located in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The statement expressed the family’s desire to pay tribute to Mr Ibu’s legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness.
“We would appreciate your esteemed presence as we lay to rest our son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law on June 28, 2024. Kindly join us as we share the best and last moments with our icon,” the statement read.
Five-Day Tribute: Events Planned to Commemorate Mr Ibu’s Life and Legacy
The scheduled five-day burial ceremony will commence on Tuesday, June 25, with a high-profile novelty match to honour the late actor. On Wednesday, June 26, a session named “Mr Ibu’s Night” will be held, featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment.
A Christian Wake-Keep is planned for June 27 at Mr Ibu’s compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, while the funeral service will be conducted on June 28.
The five-day event is set to conclude on Sunday, June 30, with a Church Thanksgiving, where family members, friends, and well-wishers will gather to express their gratitude.
